What this research means for patients
Gas gangrene is a rapidly spreading soft-tissue infection that destroys skin, fat, and muscle. Surviving it is step one — what’s left afterward is a large, deep, irregular wound that conventional dressings struggle to close.
This poster presents cases in which fragmented fish skin graft — a regenerative tissue matrix — was used to fill those deep defects after surgical debridement. The fragmented form conforms to irregular wound beds that flat grafts can’t reach, supporting new tissue growth from the base of the wound up.
The takeaway for patients: even large, complex wounds that follow severe infection can close without amputation when aggressive debridement is paired with modern grafting — the same approach used in our wound-care program.
