Custom molded orthotic insole fitted to a patient's foot

Overview

Drugstore insoles cushion. Custom orthotics correct. Molded precisely to your feet and prescribed for your specific mechanics, they treat the cause of pain — abnormal motion and pressure — rather than padding the symptom.

A good orthotic disappears — you just notice the pain is gone. Most patients wonder why they waited.

What to expect

Your care, step by step

  1. Biomechanical examWe assess your gait, alignment, and pressure points — the prescription starts here.
  2. Precise moldingA true custom mold of your feet, not a foam box guess.
  3. Built to purposeMaterials and corrections chosen for your activity — work boots, running shoes, or dress shoes.
  4. Fitting and fine-tuningWe adjust until they're comfortable all day, every day.

Our Approach: A Prescription Device, Not a Cushion

Store inserts are cushions built for an average foot. Custom orthotics are corrective medical devices molded from your feet and prescribed for your diagnosis — designed to control specific motions and offload specific structures. They are different tools for different jobs, and the exam determines which your problem actually needs.

The process starts with diagnosis and gait analysis, because an orthotic built without understanding how your foot loads is guesswork. We capture the foot's shape, specify the corrective posting and materials for your condition, activity level, and footwear, and then adjust after you have worn them — the follow-up fitting is what separates orthotics that work from orthotics that live in a closet.

Recognizing the Signs: When Orthotics Are Worth It

Custom orthotics are indicated when pain has a mechanical cause: plantar fasciitis that keeps returning, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, flatfoot or high-arch overload, metatarsalgia, recurrent shin splints, or diabetic feet needing pressure offloading over high-risk areas.

They are usually not the answer for a problem that is inflammatory, neurological, or structural in a way that mechanics cannot address. If off-the-shelf inserts have genuinely resolved your symptoms, there is no reason to spend more — we will tell you that.

Recovery: Break-In, Lifespan, and Getting Your Money's Worth

Expect a break-in period. Wear them a few hours the first day and build up over one to two weeks; new corrective forces feel strange before they feel normal. Mild arch awareness is expected — sharp pain is not, and means the device needs adjustment, which is part of the service rather than an extra.

Well-made orthotics last years. The corrective shell is durable and top covers can be refurbished as they wear. We check fit and function at your visits and rebuild or adjust when your feet, footwear, activity, or body weight change meaningfully. For mechanical problems, correcting the mechanics is the fix — not a mask.

Common questions

Custom Molded Foot Orthotics — your questions, answered

How are custom orthotics different from store inserts?
Store inserts are cushions built for an average foot. Custom orthotics are corrective medical devices molded from your feet and prescribed for your diagnosis — controlling specific motions, offloading specific structures. They're different tools; the exam tells us which your problem actually needs.
How long do custom orthotics last?
Typically years — the corrective shells are durable, and top covers can be refurbished as they wear. We'll check fit and function at your visits, and adjust or rebuild them if your feet, footwear, or activity change meaningfully.
Will orthotics fix my problem or just mask it?
For mechanical problems — flat feet, overpronation, pressure overload — correcting the mechanics is the fix, not a mask. Orthotics are usually one component of a plan that can include stretching, strengthening, and footwear changes, so the correction holds.
